Katarzyna Stąpor received her MSc degree, PhD degree in technical sciences and DSc degree in computer science from Silesian Technical University, Gliwice, Poland, in 1985, 1994 and 2001, respectively. Since 1992 she has been working at the Institute of Computer Science, Silesian Technical University in Gliwice.

Her current research interests include many theoretical aspects of statistical pattern recognition, especially learning with kernels, unsupervised learning of classification and nonparametric methods for learning regression. She is the co-author of the classification system supporting glaucoma diagnosis in ophthalmology, being currently under clinical tests. She is the author (and co-author) of 70-ty publications including one monograph: K. Stąpor: “Pattern classification”, EXIT, Warszawa, 2005 and two books: P. Fuglewicz, K. Stąpor, A. Trojnar: „CASE for people”, Lupus, Warszawa, 1995 and E. Gatnar, K. Stąpor: “Prolog – a language of artificial intelligence”, PLJ, Warszawa, 1992.

She is a member of Advisory Board of the Machine Graphics and Vision journal.
